The Fray Gets Two Grammy NominationsDenver band The Fray has been nominated for two Grammy awards for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for the song over my head fray and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for the song "How To Save A Life."
The band was heading for a jet to return from London when the announcement was made. The band just had an industry showcase at the legendary club Borderline, the site of rock royalties R.E.M, Pearl Jam and Oasis in the 90?s.
The band, composed of frontman Isaac Slade, guitarist Joe King, drummer Ben Wysocki and guitarist Dave Welsh, got the news through a cellphone conversation with the band?s manager Jason Ienner just before they boarded the plane.
The band's album "How to Save a Life" has sold 1.3 million copies in the United States and is going gold in Canada and Australia.
A 10-date UK your is set for February but before that the band will be performing with another US leg of the tour starting in Iowa on January 10 and ending in Vail on February 3.
Back in August, the album was selling 30,000 copies a week eventually hitting the platinum mark selling 1 million units. Now it?s up to 1.3 million selling 50,000 copies a week.
The Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS, Sunday February 11, 2007 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The Fray divides their history into pre-"Grey's Anatomy" and post-"Grey's Anatomy."
The Fray were actually on the rise when the medical drama ?Grey?s Anatomy? used ?How to Save a Life,? for a key scene and later in commercials for the show.
The how to save lives, The Fray placement just catapulted the Denver band further into another stratosphere, making how to save lives, The Fray debut one of the best-selling albums of 2006 and The Fray one of the best stories of the year.
?It hasn't [been that] our song's on 'Grey's Anatomy' and now a whole lot of people are coming to our shows and are like, 'Play the "Grey's Anatomy" song!'? drummer Ben Wysocki said.
?How to save lives, The Fray has just been a nice supplement that's come along with other TV appearances, CD sales and radio and just us touring a bunch."
How to save lives, The Fray was also featured in other shows such as Scrubs, but how it was used in Grey?s was so effective that it made it stand out.
Wysocki said all the shows that the song had been on were all great, only that how to save lives, The Fray truly fit in Grey?s.
"It kind of made music notes from how to save a life by The Fray-free more impactful. It sounded different for once because you were listening to it with these visuals that are very powerful."
The band members watched the show together and then saw the song become an overnight sensation marking a significant increase on iTunes.
"How to Save a Life" hit Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart in April and has remained a top 40 staple ever since.
It peaked in the top 3 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song has sold over 1,000,000 download fray - how to save a life, and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. It is the band's highest-charting song to date.
