Sean Lennon on His BreakupOn his first solo album "Friendly Fire", Sean Lennon has some weighty topics on his mind. The set is due on Sept26 via Capitol and will be packed with brief films for each of its 10 tracks.
According to Lennon his songs are pretty fresh and are all about his relationship with his ex-girlfriend and its failure. "And also my best friend having had an affair with her," he tells Billboard.com. "It was kind of beautiful to write about."
Lennon says he has written "hundreds of songs? since the release of his 1998 debut, Into the Sun, but had no intent in purely putting out highlights from his archives for the new project. "I am most interested in what I'm doing at that moment, so this is definitely a more contemporary version of myself, " he says.
The sessions also brought Lennon closer to long time friend Harper Simon (son of Paul And Peggy Harper). Who was the main guitarist on the project, Lennon said that they had been childhood friends and in the last couple of years they realized that playing together was also cool. "He is a very talented guy," Lennon said of Paul.
Lennon returned the favor by playing bass and piano on Simon's album, a release date for which has yet to be announced.
Planning to play show in support of "Friendly Fire", Lennon however cautions that he likes to? do things that are proportional to the demand.?
" It's not like there is a big giant hammer I'm waiting to hit people over the head with to try them to get to like me. If people want to play, I'll definitely play."
Lennon will also play on the debut album from Weezer guitarist Brian Bells' new band, the name of which is still under wraps. Lennon claims to be a big fan of Weezer "but didn?t realize what a great songwirter Brian is".
" I don?t know when that record is coming out of but its super cool, I hope I can get the chance to tour with him."
Sean Lennon is the son of Beatle musician and peace activists John Lennon and Yoko Ono. |
