System of a Down on HiatusIt is no surprise how news can spread very fast in the music industry. And when the news is bad, this spreads even faster.
Right after System of a Down released its latest album entitled "Hypnotize", news of a hiatus now surrounds the band. This has sent SOAD fans participating in forums regarding the band's present status. Talks of bad blood among the band members are quite popular on these forums.
A source from MTV declared that when the band performed the System of a Down longley day, Daron Malakian who plays guitar for the band, changed the lyrics of the song. Talks began to spur that Daron actually meant that it was his band mates that he "can't stand". One thing led to another, and fans began to believe that there's bad blood among the members of System of a Down.
The band members were given the chance to clear things up during an interview, especially Daron Malakian. When asked about the System of a Down longley day performance, Malakian responded that this was "absolutely not true". Malakian continued that he might have changed the lyrics during the Ozzfest performance, but he did not mean that he could not stand his band mates. It was the "day" that he could not stand. Part of the song entitled "Lonely Day" goes "?Such a lonely day should be banned. It's a day that I can't stand?"
When asked for the real reason of the hiatus, Serj Tankian on vocals said that they wanted more time to work on other projects. Tankian revealed that he had always wanted to try a solo career. Being in the band does not render that much time to forge a solo career because of its busy schedule. The members also feel that they need a break because they have been a band for roughly 11 years already. Well, this may not be music to the ears of System of a Down fans.
The band members already have plans in mind as to how to spend their newfound free time. Malakian revealed that he will be going to many ice hockey games involving The LA Kings. He also has plans of making another band, Scars on Broadway. This new band just might have a similarity to System of a Down's music, Daron said.
Shavo Odadjian on bass also has plans of starting a new band. There's not much word out on this yet. But Odadjian stated that he has been working with The RZA, and that the new band will be named ACHOZEN.
John Dolmayan on drums, on the other hand, plans to relive his childhood. Dolmayan used to collect comics as a kid. With the band on hiatus, Dolmayan is currently in the process of putting up an online comic site, which will officially open in November 2007. SOAD fans might want to check out TorpedoComics.com by then.
Serj Tankian has been busy producing a documentary entitled "Screamers". "Screamer" is the name given to people who fight for awareness against genocide. Serj is a known survivor of American genocide. His ancestors had been unfortunate victims of genocide themselves. The documentary follows the band's promotion of their album "Hypnotize", and features System of a Down sonne in many of their scenes.
Right now, SOAD fans will have to be content with the new album. The band is sure that the fans will love System of a Down obscenity which is featured on the track. The song "Vicinity of Obscenity" encompasses the passion of the band, as claimed by many SOAD fans. Music sites worldwide offer a lot of features for SOAD fans as well. Many even share tips on how to play System of a Down music in drop d. This can be good for aspiring musicians who look up to System of a Down.
There's nothing definite about the band getting back together again whether it be for a tour or a new album. The only thing for sure is that SOAD fans will miss the band. |
