Born Joanna Noëlle Levesque, Jojo was exposed to music at an early age. Her father was a blues performer at that time, while her mother was a member of a church choir. Her parents divorced when Jojo was still 3, and she has lived with her mother ever since. Jojo started singing to her mother's church hymns at the age of 2, and her talent for singing developed since then.

As a child, Jojo also tried her hand at acting. She starred in local plays, and caught the eye of Aretha Franklin and Oprah Winfrey. She was then invited to perform on shows for them. The record producer from Blackground Records then heard of Jojo, and asked her to audition for the company. You can probably guess what happened after that audition.

After recording a live demo in 2001, Jojo's first album entitled Jojo was then released in 2004. It then scaled the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and took the 4th spot with ease. The second single Baby It's You, which features the young rapper Bow Wow, reached the 22nd spot in America. It did better in the UK, taking the 8th spot on their charts. The music video Baby It's You by Jojo and Bow Wow takes place at a carnival. Fans liked the upbeat nature of the music video Baby It's You by Jojo and Bow Wow.

Jojo's second album, The High Road, did better than the first. Released on October 2006, the album garnered the 3rd spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The lead single, Too Little, Too Late, was released onto mainstream radio summer of 2006. Jojoa Little Too Late did very well on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Upon its debut, Jojo Little Too Late started at 90th place on the chart. Not to worry though, because in a span of just 5 weeks, A Little Too Late Jojo soared through the chart, and took the 3rd spot. Yes, you read it right. The 3rd spot.

To Little To Late Jojo also hit the #1 spot on iTunes Top Songs. And this was in just a matter of days after Jojo A Little To Late came out on iTunes. Jojo Too Little Too Late mp3 song became one of the most downloaded songs for 2006. To date, To Little To Late By Jojo is the track that is thriving the most among all tracks on both albums. There's no definite word on a 3rd studio album yet. Rumor has it that Jojo is waiting until she turns 18 for her 3rd album to be released.
