Jazz Saxophonist Dies in Suicide Moses Khumalo, a renowned African saxophonist player in the jazz scene, died at the age of 27.
The music artist was found on Monday hanging from a rope in his townhouse. A police spokesperson sad that, however no note has been found, they are suspecting a case of suicide.
Born in Leadowlands, Sowete in 1979, Khumalo learned piano and saxophone at the Manu Technical College. He initially played with Soweto Youth Jazz Band, when a member of the late pianist Moses Molelekwa's band discovered him that he emerged to national popularity.
Molelekwa is a pianist, composer and producer who offered a contemporary vision of the Rainbow Nation through his fusion of African and western idioms. He committed suicide on February 13,200.
After the pianist?s death, Khumalo signed a solo contract album, "Mntungwa?, and was released in 2002. At the 2003 SA Music Awards, he won the best newcomer trophy for his debut album. He followed with "Ibuyile" in 2005. |
