Green Day is credited to be the founders of American punk rock. Other bands that forged punk rock on American soil are Rancid and The Offspring.

The trio consists of Billie Joe Armstrong on guitar and lead vocals, Mike Dirnt on bass, and Tré Cool on drums. Their first debut album Dookie was a massive success when it came out in 1994. The album sold at least 15 million copies worldwide. Dookie featured hit tracks like Basket Case and When I Come Around. Dookie went on to win a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album for the year 1995.
