After selling over 20 million copies of Hybrid Theory followed shortly by equally successful albums and collaborative projects, Linkin Park taking it further this year with a new album, which will not be the same nu metal style they have produced in the past.

In an interview on MTV's total Request Live (TRL), Linkin Park lead vocalist Chester Bennington said the group will be straying away from the predictable sounds they had in the past as they want to try new things and spread their wings as far as they want.

Bennington said the group is geared to prove their goal with this new record, which is said to be a mixture of punk, classic rock and vintage hip-hop.

Mike Shinoda described one of the songs they are working on, titled Accident, and how it is different from their previous releases. Shinoda said the guitar sounds of Accident sounds like Metallica, with a Stones-like groove and beat sounds like Motown accompanied with rapping and clash-style vocals.

Shinoda said if their new sound doesn't prompt people to refrain from calling them rap rock, then he doesn't know what else to do.

Linkin Park also revealed that they are using vintage guitar, and drums out of wood to come up with the best sound they desire to convey this time.

Although some guesses on the album's title have recently surfaced, Trials and Tribulations for one, Phoenix clarified that the album title has not been chosen yet.

Guesses on the albums official release date and false announcements have stirred some debate and frustration amongst fans on various Linkin Park message boards.

The new edition of Blender Magazine states that Linkin Park's new album will be out in March 2007. However, other sources indicate the album will be released February 20th 2007.

On the other hand, Linkin Park recently released its entire catalog on the iTunes music store, including their collaborative works.

The catalog also include linkin park+ reanimation, linkin park download of numb, linkin park paper cut, among others.

The most famous collaboration the group had so far was with Jay-Z in 2004's Collision Course. Jigga what/faint - jay-z & linkin park mp3 featured mashups of seven Linkin Park songs and six Jay-Z songs.

The Jigga what/faint - jay-z & linkin park mp3 first single, "Numb/Encore", peaked at number twenty on the billboard charts and remained in the charts for six months, going on to win a Grammy. The album itself debuted at number one on the charts.

Reanimation is a remix album released after and based upon their first album, Hybrid Theory. Linkin park+ reanimation features heavily remixed songs from the Hybrid Theory album as well as previous LP material. Reanimation was very rap-styled, as opposed to Hybrid Theory's nu-metal format, with singing and rapping vocal exchanges between Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda.

It was only very recently that the group agreed to sell digital versions of their music, although exclusive and unreleased versions of some of their songs have been given to members of their biggest fan club, the Linkin Park Underground fan club formed by a friend of the band, Jessica Bardas.

Members of the fan club receive a package every year, as long as they renew their membership, containing a linkin park - sad drip workshirt, a CD and several odds and ends, including guitar picks, stickers and posters. The first CD featured was a re-issue of Hybrid Theory EP, with new artwork.
