When Mariah Carey first came out into the music industry, she came out with a bang. She quickly gained a huge following with her hit singles and garnered massive record sales. This started way back in 1990 when the pop singer gave the world its first taste of Mariah Carey with her self-titled album.

The public was very much enthralled with what the singer had to offer that her first five singles topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. This feat was the first in the music world. Her debut album also earned her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Performance for her first single Vision of Love.

Successive feats followed with the subsequent singles and albums. Though her second album Emotions didn't get her as much success as the previous one, Mariah Carey quickly patched it up with her third album Music Box, released in 1993.

This became Mariah Carey's most successful album worldwide. The album also contained #1 hits including Without You, Dreamlover and Hero. Everybody wanted to especially Listen to Hero by Mariah Carey as the song gave out such a positive message coupled with the pop singer's soothing voice.

This was also the time when the singer got married with Tommy Mottola who she got involved with since her debut album's release. Then in 1994 and 1995, Mariah Carey released a holiday album, Merry Christmas and her forth album, Daydream. The Christmas album spawned the hit all i want for christmas Mariah Carey which became very popular in Japan. Daydream on the other hand produced the remix of Fantasy and One Sweet Day which was with Boyz II Men.

These hits became so popular that the public wanted to listen to Mariah Carey one sweet day that they searched for one sweet day audio Mariah Carey and even looked for Sheet music for Mariah Carey All I Want For Christmas is You.

Even after the separation of the singer with Motolla in 1996, continuous chart topping albums and singles were still produced and released by the pop singer and songwriter. Butterfly was released just a year after the separation and contained the hit single Honey.

Then in 1999 Rainbow followed, whose single Thank God I Found You gave the singer the recognition as the "only act to have a number-one single in each year of the 1990s."

All these success was however put to a halt when in 2001, she had to deal with personal and professional problems that eventually led to her hospitalization. During this time, she had produced the movie Glitter which failed at the box office. Its soundtrack too was received poorly and even her album Charmbracelet, was greatly criticized and named as the worst of her career.

To add to her demise, future photos of Mariah Carey and luis Miguel as a couple would no longer be possible as the two split up just after staying together since 1999. Her attempt on entering the film industry also proved to be a failure as many negative comments came bolting her way.

This was Mariah Carey's most down time in her life. Just like a rollercoaster that plummets into the bottom from a very elevated place, her career and her personal life seemed to be doing the same.

But Mariah Carey didn't give up. In 2005, she released her ninth studio album, The Emancipation of Mimi. This was received greatly by the public and gave the critics nothing bad to say about it. It became the year's best-selling album and the single We Belong Together topped the charts for 14 weeks. The single Don't Forget About Us, also gained #1 status on the charts and this gave Mariah Carey her 7th #1 in the US putting her in the line of Elvis Presley of having this many numbers of #1 hits.

And also just like a rollercoaster ride she was quickly scaled up on to a higher platform of her career.
