People say singing is the best form of praise. In that case, it's no surprise that Christian rock bands are quite a hit nowadays. But when asked to name some Christian rock bands, people seldom mention Underoath. Most people mention Switchfoot or Jars of Clay instead.
And yet, Underoath has been in the music scene since 1998. That is close to a decade ago. But somehow, the band just hasn't found the right pacing yet. And this just might be the reason why the band is seemingly taking a turn towards a broader genre of music.
Underoath hails from Tampa, Florida; and they are presently working under the music label Tooth & Nail. Tooth & Nail Records is actually an affiliate of Solid State Records. Its roots go way back to 1998 when Takehold Records was still an independent company from Tooth & Nail. A year after Underoath signed on with Takehold Records, their debut album Act of Depression was released. However, the limited release of this album did not do that much for the band.
In 2000, the band's sophomore album, Cries of the Past was released. The release of Underoath cries of the past was still limited, but this brought more attention to the band. Sure enough, with the release of their 3rd album, The Changing of Times, people were already humming Underoath lyrics to a lot of their songs. What's more, their singles have begun to receive significant airplay on mainstream radio. This time around, Takehold Records was already bought out by Tooth & Nail Records. In turn, Underoath was absorbed by the stronger affiliate, Solid State Records. The band's 3rd album was already under the Solid State label.
2004 marked the release of the band's 4th album, They're Only Chasing Safety. A lot of tracks came off this album. The stronger pack includes it's dangerous Underoath, Underoath boy brushed red, Underoath some will seek forgiveness, and Underoath reinventing your exit. With these strong tracks to boast, the band was able to garner sales of more than 350,000 copies all over the world. Tim McTague on guitar reveals that this is the best album the band has ever made. The band aimed for this album to stir people into some sort of frenzy. They no longer wanted to be viewed as one of the up-and-coming bands in the industry. This is why the band came up with the best material they've ever done for this album. And the plan worked! The songs it's dangerous Underoath, Underoath boy brushed red, Underoath some will seek forgiveness, and Underoath reinventing your exit received more significant airplay this time around. And this is especially true for Underoath its dangerous business.
The success of their 4th album led to its re-release and a number of Underoath live shows for the Warped Tour. After these promising events, Underoath started working on their next album, Define the Great Line, released in 2006.
This time around, the band did not want to be typecasted as a pure Christian band. The members, Spencer Chamberlain in particular, felt that the label of being a Christian rock band leads to limited results for both the band and their fans. This is why the members struggled to incorporate more melodic tunes for Underoath writeing on the walls and Underoath in regards to myself. And both songs have done well on the charts as well. In fact, the music video for Underoath writeing on the walls was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video in the recent Grammy Awards. Underoath mp3 downloads for writing on the walls Underoath and Underoath in regards to myself have been rampant as well. The success of Underoath writing on the walls in particular led to the album taking the #1 spot on the Christian/Gospel charts.
Despite the slight transition, Underoath is still adamant about them being a Christian band. Well, you know what they say. No matter how you teach someone the concept of addition, whether by using apples or animals, the same lesson of addition is being taught.
