The Saints Are Coming Green Day And U2 Charity Coalition

Hurricane Katrina was so huge a devastation that it touched so many lives, not only the victims who succumbed to the tragedy but also people who have witnessed the anguish and has somehow been prompted to do something and make a difference.

Green Day is a band you would least think of being around in charity works, but with Hurricane Katrina, the members of the band along with producer Rick Rubin and U2 formed an organization to help raise funds for the musicians who have been victims of the hurricane with their instruments trashed by the strong winds.

Green Day recorded a cover of The Skids original "The Saints Are Coming" to generate funds for the musician victims and help bring back music in New Orleans.

The song "The Saints Are Coming" is a 1978 original of the Scottish rock band The Skids, which talks about personal fears and stormy weather. The Skids vocalist Richard Jobson said the lyrics of the song were originally about his friend who joined the British Army and got killed while on duty in Northern Ireland.

The saints are coming u2 green day, which deals about storms and going under is but fitting to the tragic scenery of the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, hence a cover version with green day tabs of the saints are coming green day and u2 was recorded as a charity single.

The saints are coming green day and u2 both performed a live version of the track during the pre-game show of the New Orleans Saints against the Atlanta Falcons, which marked the first game held at the Louisiana Superdome since the hurricane brought huge damage to the structure.

The bands played a four-song set, which included "Wake Me Up When September Ends," the saints are coming green day, House of The Rising Sun, and "Beautiful Day." The green day lyrics of the the saints are coming green day and u2 and the other songs were, however, customized by Bono and Billie Joe Armstrong to memorialize the tribulations and success encountered by New Orleans for the past year.

That night, New Orleans won a lopsided 23-3 victory against the Atlanta Falcons scoring a 68,000 fans first season sellout of the Superdome. From then on, the saints are coming green day u2 has become the Saints theme song at home games.

The saints are coming green day u2 was made available as digital download on October of 2006 while the u2 and green day mp3 CD version was released the following month.

The video of the song showed blatant sarcasm against the government and other entities involved including the media on how the tragic incident was dealt with. It showed President George W. Bush redirecting Iraq troops to New Orleans, referred to as the saints, however, it wasn't the real case, hence the disclaimer "Not seen on TV" at the end of the video. Green day warning mp3 was purportedly to show how rescue missions should be done in the future to save more lives during similar incidents.

On the other hand, 2006 proved to be a good homecoming green day year for Green Day because apart from the unexpected success of The Saints Are Coming, the grouch green day won the Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards for Green Day-bulivard of broken dreams.

Green Day-bulivard of broken dreams stayed at the number one post of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and remained there for a record of 16 weeks. A record previously held by Staind and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Too much too soon green day "Wake Me Up When September Ends" also earned the punk revivalist a nomination at the 2006 MTV Video Music awards.
