Linkin Park Turns Away from Nu-Metal

It has been around four years since Linkin Park's Meteora conquered the radios and Billboard charts, and now a similar tune is playing on the airwaves, and yes you're right, the multi-platinum band is back.

The track What I've Done off the latest Linkin Park album, Minutes to Midnight, is now blaring on radios since April 2. Although, the track sounds Linkin Park, a lot of changes are noticeable from the group's latest album.

Producer Rick Rubin has been instrumental to such changes.

Linkin Park started out as a nu-metal band, although the group hates to be categorized under such genre, known for number one hits including Faint, Numb, Somewhere I Belong, Lying From You, and Breaking the Habit.

Linkin Park debuted with Hybrid Theory which gave them their ultimate taste of fame selling over 9 million copies of Linkin Park mp3s in the US alone and millions more around the world.

Hybrid Theory also ushered in Linkin Park hits One Step Closer and the alternative rock staple Crawling of Linkin Park and Papercut.

Another hit track from Hybrid Theory was Linkin Park's Points of Authority. It was such a hit that a Linkin Park remix was created for Points of Authority labeled as Pts.Of.Athrty on the Linkin Park reanimation album.

Despite such success from the vital originator of the rap-metal genre, Linkin Park chose to turn away from such type of music and painstakingly took time to create something more, something they think the people would want to hear from the group.

Linkin Park Minutes to Midnight is up for release by mid-May, the single What I've Done only serves as an appetizer of what Linkin Park fans should expect from the entire album.

Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington said Linkin Park shied away from anything nu-metal despite the fact that the group played a vital role in creating such genre. Bennington said the hip-hop element though of Linkin Park music will always remain.

Linkin Park last appeared in the music scene during a highly publicized squabble with their record label Warner Bros. during the company's initial public offering. With four albums left on their contract, Linkin Park wanted to be relieved from the contract fearing that Warner Bros. might not keep up with their responsibility to the band.

However, the issue was settled in less than eight months with Warner furnishing Linkin Park with a $15 million advance for the Minutes to Midnight album of Linkin Park. The group also signed up for five more records with Warner Bros. with the royalty rate raised by 20 percent.

And so when everything cleared up, Linkin Park went back to their instruments and started toiling on their next masterpiece at Rick Rubin's Laurel Canyon California mansion.

Bennington urged Linkin Park to come up with materials that they think what Linkin Park fans wanted to hear and whatever lyrics Linkin Park wanted to write and convey.

Minutes to Midnight will be Linkin Park's testament to their ambitions in style showcasing different stylistic accompaniment in every track in the album.

Tracks such as Leave Out All the Rest, Shadow of the Day, The Little Things You Give Away, and Given Up are only a few to watch out for from the album.

In the end Linkin Park is confident on the projected positive performance of their latest album saying the market changed and the kind of expectations from the fans might be largely different from the market four years ago.

The band's confidence lies in the belief that they have put all the necessary efforts to come up with such an excellent album that carries a message for everybody. Their main intent was to relay that message and whatever that is, I guess buying the album would be the best way to find out.
