Lately, reunions have been quite the in thing in the music scene. And the same goes for the English pop scene as well.
Remember the boy band formed by Nigel Martin Smith in the 1990's? The one who gave you the hits Pray and Back for Good? Yes, Take That! The boy band, fronted by Gary Barlow, reached the prime of their career when they were hailed as the most successful band to ever hit England since The Beatles! Their concerts were often swamped, with tickets sold out! Take That really marched into stardom in no time.
It's a shame that Robbie Williams decided to leave the band in 1995. But the unraveling did not stop there because the following year, Take That decided to disband as well. Such a shame indeed.
It would take close to a decade for the band to even consider reuniting for some sort of album or performance. But during the hiatus, the mp3 versions of Take That's songs still garnered profit for the band.
So, come 2005, the band decided to have a reunion tour, minus Robbie Williams for 2006. Their tour, The Ultimate Tour 2006, was panned out for just 11 tour dates. But the success of these stops prodded the band to add more tour dates, 19 more tour dates to be exact!
Robbie Williams was invited to join the tour by the reunited foursome, but Williams declined to join the band. Still, Take That wouldn't be Take That without Robbie, right? So, the band made sure to arm themselves with an extra mic for Robbie, should he decide to join.
And that's not all! Take That also took upon themselves to grab a music deal with Polydor Records. The comeback album, Beautiful World, was released November of 2006, and has since then roughly two million units worldwide. Critics praised the comeback album, and even mentioned that the boy band hasn't lost their musical touch after all these years! And, the best part of all, is that all members are now given the chance to do the lead vocals on all songs of the album!
Their comeback hit, Patience, was released mid-November of 2006. It took the 4th spot on the UK Singles Chart upon its release, and scaled to the top spot the following week. It went on to stay at the top for another four weeks! What's more, Patience won the Best British Single Award at the BRIT Awards just this year!
The second single off Beautiful World, Shine, was released late February of 2007. This time around, it was Mark Owen who did the lead vocals for Shine. And it was a pretty smart move as well! For in just a matter of days upon its release, Shine took the top spot on the UK Singles Chart. Shine also scaled the Irish Singles Chart, eventually peaking at 2nd place.
Now that Take That has come back to penetrating the music scene, what is to be made of Robbie Williams? Is there any possibility of Robbie joining the reunion? Chances are, he probably will, according to his very own mother Jan Williams. Williams has had quite a rough patch in his life, with the lackluster of his recent album, Rudebox, and his recent rehab stint. So, this Take That reunion just might be what he needs!
And, as Take That has been mentioning ever since, Williams is always welcome to join them for the second time around. So, will Take That be complete for this reunion? We'll let's just set our eyes on the horizon and see what happens. In the meantime, just enjoy the fresh tracks Take That has been dishing out for y'all!
