The feeling of living in the shadow of someone is quite difficult to handle. This is especially true of the owner of the shadow is someone very close to you, perhaps a brother or sister.
And this is where Ashlee Simpson enters the picture. Ashlee, NOT Ashley, is the younger sister of singer/songwriter Jessica Simpson. Both sisters have gorgeous blond hair. Both are into composing songs. And both have also delved in the film and television industry.
When older sister was signed on to her major record label, the family moved to L.A., California, in the hopes of getting Ashlee Simpson a career as well. But Ashlee didn't really start out as a singer, although she had always expressed a vivid interest in music. Ashlee Simpson's career actually started on TV. One of the major roles I'm sure you'd remember Ashlee Simpson has had would be her role on the family drama, 7th Heaven. Not long after 7th Heaven, Ashlee Simpson scored a record deal of her own. And this was when she started composing lyrics for her own material.
Ashlee Simpson's debut album, Autobiography, was released in 2004, but was received with an array of both positive and negative reviews. Still, Ashlee Simpson's debut went on to score Platinum status three times!
Autobiography brought about many chart-hitting tracks for Ashlee Simpson. Some of these are Pieces of Me and La La. Ashlee Simpson herself actually co-wrote the lyrics to Pieces of Me. At the time, Ashlee Simpson was dating fellow musician Ryan Cabrera. And it was at the highest point of their relationship that Ashlee Simpson came up with Pieces of Me. And the "feel good" song did incredibly well on the charts. Even its mp3 version scored thousands upon thousands of digital downloads worldwide!
Ashlee Simpson also co-wrote the lyrics to La La, and is known to be the track that has the heavy rock influence. Fans of Ashlee Simpson like this track because of its high energy level. And speculations on what La La literally means in the track are still rampant to date. Ashlee Simpson reveals that the meaning of La La is actually relative to the listener. So, the meaning of such should then be a case to case basis then.
But then came the meltdown of Ashlee Simpson: the lip synching incident on Saturday Night Live on October 2004. I'm sure y'all have heard about this incident in one way or another. Let's just say that this just might be the most horrible thing that can happen to any musician. Still, Ashlee Simpson was able to bounce back with as much grace as she could muster.
In 2005, Ashlee Simpson released her sophomore installment, I Am Me. The carrier singles of the album are Boyfriend and L.O.V.E. This time around, the album is more inclined to the 80's genre.
The lyrics to Boyfriend actually stirred controversy for Ashlee Simpson. You see, there were rumors circulating at the time of the album's release that Ashlee Simpson was romantically involved with Wilmer Valderrama. Speculations then stirred that Boyfriend was dedicated to Valderrama's ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Lohan. You see, the gist of Boyfriend has Ashlee Simpson singing that she did not steal another girl's boyfriend. So, isn't this quite too close for comfort?
These allegations, however, were denied by Ashlee Simpson. The track, according to her, was just something that any woman can experience in her life. And that's all there is to it, apparently. Anyhow, that's a thing of the past already.
These days, Ashlee Simpson has been busy collaborating with The Cure's very own Robert Smith. Now, isn't her inclination to 80's music even clearer than ever? No definite word has been given about this collaboration yet. So, just be sure to check it out soon!
