There are numerous bands all over the world that are comprised of brothers and sisters. There's Hanson, who recently resurfaced from quite a long hiatus. There's The Corrs, the multitalented band from Ireland. And then there's the Brit rock band Oasis.
Although Oasis is not really comprised of merely brothers, the band is certainly fronted by the Gallagher brothers. Liam Gallagher is the lead vocals for Oasis, while older brother Noel Gallagher plays the guitar, and is the primary composer for the lyrics to Oasis' songs. To date, Oasis has sold 44 million albums worldwide! Now, this is some feat that Oasis alone was able to achieve during the 1990's.
Oasis has certainly been compared to the sound of The Beatles, especially when their guitar riffs are being talked about. And this is not surprising actually, because Oasis certainly has The Beatles as one of the major musical influences.
Their debut album way back in 1994, Definitely Maybe, spawned the hit tracks Shakermaker, Live Forever, and Supersonic. On the Australian release, the bonus track entitled Whatever, also garnered huge success for Oasis.
The follow-up album in 1995, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was even more successful than Oasis' debut album. And, oh, did it bring forth numerous chart-hitting tracks! There's Wonderwall, of course, and Champagne Supernova. There's also Don't Look Back in Anger.
Because of these Oasis tracks, their album went Platinum fourteen whopping times! Imagine that? In fact, this album has gone on to become the third largest-selling album on UK Charts.
Wonderwall, in particular, broke the inevitable musical barriers between the UK and the US. In fact, Wonderwall was able to penetrate the Top 10 of the US Billboard charts. And, to date, it remains the only Oasis track to have achieved that! Its mp3 version is also a strong contender on the digital download charts.
Champagne Supernova and Don't Look Back in Anger became strong favorites of Oasis fans as well. Here are some pieces of trivia on these tracks composed by Oasis. The title for Champagne Supernova actually stems from a documentary on champagne that Noel Gallagher was watching at the time. As for Don't Look Back in Anger, they don't really know any "Sally", from the chorus to the song. Oasis just thought that "Sally" was the appropriate name to use on the track, based plainly on the sound of it. These two tracks remained strong favorites throughout the concerts performed by Oasis.
And the list of strong tracks does not stop there at all! Oasis dished out the tracks Masterplan, Songbird, and Lyla. These three tracks charted quite high on the Billboard charts, both US and the UK.
But, just like any other band, Oasis has also experienced their fair share of problems. This more or less started not long after the release of their successful sophomore installment. Drug abuse and alcohol abuse have been coined with Oasis' co-founder, Liam Gallagher. This led to some lineup changes, and arguments between the Gallagher brothers. Still, Oasis remained strong, and is even in the lineup of the bands set to produce covers of some Beatles' songs off their ever famous album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club. These covers will be a sort of tribute to the album's 40th anniversary.
Other artists that will cover The Beatles, aside from Oasis, is The Killers and Razorlight. Travis, James Morrison, and the Kaiser Chiefs are also set out to perform during this event.
Despite the problems Oasis had gone through, this invitation to participate in making the tribute album strongly suggests that Oasis is still a well-respected band in the industry. So, this tribute performance should be something to look forward to then.
