Mary J. Blige: The Reigning Queen

Ever since 2002, Mary J. Blige has made a name for herself, on her own right. With 32 million album sales to her name, that should be a pretty huge name already!

The rich quality of her voice and her soulful lyrics have earned Mary J. Blige the title of the Queen of Hip Hop Soul. This is one piece of trivia that any biography on Mary J. Blige should contain. And her influence extends to a variety of female musicians all over the music scene today.

And Mary J. Blige's name has been quite the mainstay on the Billboard charts. Even the mp3 versions of her tracks have been very huge on the digital download charts. To date, Mary J. Blige has quite a large number of tracks that have made it huge on the Billboard charts. One of these is No More Drama, from her 2001 album of the same title.

No More Drama scaled the Billboard charts, and reached its ultimate height at #15. The music video for No More Drama also garnered a Best R&B Video award from MTV's VMAs.

Another Mary J. Blige hit from the album No More Drama is Family Affair. Veteran Dr. Dre's production of Family Affair did wonders for Mary J. Blige's piece right here. In fact, Family Affair went as high as the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart! And Family Affair stayed at the top of the chart for a long 6 weeks! This is really some feat for Mary J. Blige, to have her first ever #1 hit stay at the top for that long a period!

And since then, Mary J. Blige has been unstoppable on the charts! With hit after hit, you just can't discount the musical prowess of Mary J. Blige in hip hop soul.

And this doesn't hold true for just Mary J. Blige's tracks. Even her albums have won awards as well! In 2005, Mary J. Blige released her album The Breakthrough. And this album garnered a huge bag of awards from both the Grammy's and Billboard Music. All in all, Mary J. Blige won three Grammy's and nine Billboard Music awards for The Breakthrough.

The singles off The Breakthrough also garnered a lot of success for the Queen of Hip Hop Soul. The lead single, Be Without You, bagged two Grammy awards for Mary J. Blige. These awards are Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. The music video for Mary J. Blige's Be Without You features actor Terrence Howard. Howard plays Mary J. Blige's boyfriend here.

Aside from Be Without You are Mary J. Blige's One and MJB Da MVP. One is actually Mary J. Blige's cover of the immortal track done by U2. And Mary J. Blige's cover features the vocals of Bono himself in the background! This collaboration earned both Mary J. Blige and U2 a nomination for the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals just December of last year. MJB Da MVP, on the other hand, did not receive that much promotion, as compared to the other tracks done by Mary J. Blige. Nonetheless, the track managed the chart on its own both locally and internationally.

And then came Mary J. Blige's collaboration with Ludacris, Runaway Love. The concept for Runaway Love is really a matter that's close to Mary J. Blige's heart. This is especially true since Mary J. Blige has always been making hit tracks about family matters and domestic problems. And this is the exact nature of the Runaway Love collaboration with Mary J. Blige. Runaway Love has gone as high as #1 on the Hot 100 Airplay and Hot Rap Tracks.

And for this year, Mary J. Blige has also dished out We Ride, off the album Reflections - A Retrospective. If you liked Be Without You, you will definitely like Mary J. Blige's We Ride! The vibe and the tempo is not quite like Be Without You, because it's way better! Just take our word for it, and you won't be disappointed!
