Nelly Furtado On The LooseNamed after the spontaneity of how the album was done, Nelly Furtado?s third album, aptly called ?Loose? carrying the chart-topper single Maneater, made her the first Canadian act to have a UK number-one single since Celine Dion with "My Heart Will Go On" in 1998.
Loose was released in June 2006. Four Nelly urtado mp3 lead singles were released in different regions of the world: the Spanish Reggaeton-influenced "No Hay Igual" (featuring Calle 13), the hip-hop Justin Timberlake crowd control feat. Nelly Furtado mp3s, the latin "Te Busqué" (featuring Juanes) and the dark-pop man eater Nelly Furtado.
The album, mostly produced by Timbaland, showed her experimenting with a more R&B?hip hop sound and the "surreal, theatrical elements of '80s music". Listen to Nelly Furtado songs + web radio.
She has categorized the album's sound as punk-hop, which she describes as "this modern, poppy, spooky music" and stated that "there's a mysterious, after-midnight vibe to [it] that's extremely visceral". She attributed the youthful sound of the album to the presence of her two-year old daughter.
"The cool thing is we did the mixes as we went. The whole album is a board mix theoretically. We didn't bring in the fancy mixer at the end".
During the album's creation, she listened to several electro and hard rock musicians including System of a Down and Death from Above 1979 who influenced the rock sounds present on the album and the "coughing, laughing, distorted bass lines" which were kept in the songs deliberately.
Loose became the most successful album of Furtado's career, reaching number-one in several countries including the United States and Canada and producing the hit singles, Nelly Furtado promiscuous mp3 and man-eater by Nelly Furtado, which became the most successful songs of her career, reaching number-one in many countries.
Nelly Furtado eater reached the top five on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, but it was not as commercially successful in the U.S. as the preceding single, "Promiscuous", which reached number one on all three charts. In Canada, where "Promiscuous" topped the singles chart, lyrics to Maneater by Nelly Furtado became a top five hit on the BDS Airplay Chart. The single debuted on the Australia ARIA Singles Chart on September 25 and rose to the top five on the following week, and peaked on its seventh week at number three.
"Promiscuous" was released as the album's first single in North America in early 2006 (see 2006 in music) and as the second single elsewhere in mid-2006. It reached number one in Canada, New Zealand and the United States.
The lyrics Nelly Furtado Promicius describe a two-sided relationship that the song's protagonist deals with. It was one of the first records Furtado wrote with labelmate Timothy "Attitude" Clayton.
Furtado called their teamwork something she "had never done before" because she saw the writing process as "extremely freeing" because of his different, but characteristic approach and style. Clayton helped promiscuous girl & nelly furtado experiment with interpreting the "promiscuous girl" character and the two-sided relationship she is in.
Because of the preponderant musical influence of artists such as Talking Heads, Blondie, Madonna, The Police and Eurythmics, whom producers Timbaland and Danja listened to while writing the album, "Promiscuous" takes inspiration from pop music of the 1980s.
The album received generally positive reviews from critics, with some citing the "revitalising" effect of Timbaland on Furtado's music, and others calling it "slick, smart and surprising."
In November 2006, Furtado announced that her world tour will begin in Canada on January 31, 2007. The first date is in London, Ontario, and she will tour five continents. She also stated the she has recorded a new song with Timbaland for his upcoming album.
Furtado began acting in school plays in middle school. She formally began studying acting after she planned to appear in an Indian Hindi language film which never came to fruition. Acting courses taught her to "let go of [her] ego and feel really grounded"; this influenced the theme and creation of her third album Loose. She prepared for a role in a second film, the independent drama Nobody's Hero (2006), but plans fell through as filming conflicted with the promotion of Loose. |
